The Beginning

In the days when the earth was young, the gods picked a patch that they decided would be for horses and horses alone. This patch was to be safe from the humans, who had already made it clear they had no disregard for others' lives. "It is such a shame," the gods said. They could forsee a day when the two-legs' recklessness and stupidity ruined the entire earth. Such creatures were filled with evil and felt no shame, only the desire to contain what is bigger than them and to shun what they do not understand. So Epona, goddess of horses, took a handful of earth and sea foam, and gently blew the Southernly wind upon the masses and created horses, of all shapes, sizes, and colors. She made their hearts good and pure, and gently lowered her great hands to the surface of the earth, where the horses leapt free and galloped to every corner of the earth, adapting with ease and changing to fit their habitat. But it soon became clear that her plan for a safe haven would have to happen sooner than planned. Humans had captured her beautiful creations and were treating them shamelessly, beating and torturing them with sharp and cruel mouthpieces. They jumped on their backs and hit them so that they ran until they collapsed; and then the humans left them to die. Epona cried tears that fell from the sky and showered the earth. She soon recovered from her grief and came to the place she had selected long ago for the safe haven. She created the perfect domain for horses; a secluded land where they would be forever safe from the humans' wrath. Epona carved lush green valleys and sprinkled sand onto magnificent deserts. She gave life to the wilted, dying forest until it was green and strong once more. She chiseled high, snowy peaks into rocks. Every kind of land you could imagine, so every kind of equine could be comfortable. Then, to fill the empty lands, she scooped up mares, stallions, and foals from all around the world and set them in their native environment. Epona called the land Ascetia, and was pleased. Stallions staked their claim and created families, and for quite some time every horse was happy. Then, humans came upon Epona's herd.

The Rebuilding

They went crazy, snatching up all of Epona's beautiful horses. She cried once more, when she realized the land was empty except for a couple of mares that had managed to hide from the chaos in the most secret of valleys. After countless centuries of peace, her land lay empty and in ruin. One of the herd stallions, however, managed to escape the humans. Santiago was his name. The loss of his band left a hole in his heart, and he ran to escape the pain. Epona took pity on the lone stag and returned him back to Ascetia, the land she was struggling to rebuild. She created a new territory, the safest of all, and put both Santiago and the traumatized mares in it. The bay stallion quickly adopted all five and nurtured their spirits and his own. They grew strong while Epona made the mountains stronger and harsher; she made the valley deeper and bigger; she made the desert hotter and bleaker; and she made the great forest sinister and unforgiving. All to keep the humans away. While she made the land more challenging, Santiago's small herd grew. The mares gave birth to a new batch of spring fillies and colts. Finally, when Epona was sure the land was safe from any humans, she found horses under terrible abuse and control from the humans and lovingly took them to Ascetia; and they became wild once more. Some humans had done at least some good; many of the horses had good blood and features. Even though the new conditions made it harder to survive, the strongest did and the population of Ascetia was good once more. Santiago passed, as did the original Ascetia mares, but his many offspring lived on and became great figures in Ascetia. One, Domingo, became a spiritual leader with a strong dream connection to Epona. He foretold prophecies to the rest of Ascetia and they believed; and eventually they came true. One night, the pinto stag received a clear message from Epona: All will perish and a new generation will arrive.

The Prophecy

Domingo, of course, was too terrified to tell anyone about his dream. Because that meant he, too, would perish, and Ascetia would be lost. So he lived his life, secretly shaken to his core, and stopped receiving messages from Epona. With no more to tell them, and no longer of any use to Ascetia, the Ascetians banned him from their high herd. Domingo wandered alone, coming to a large, wooded hill and spending the rest of his days there. All because he was a coward. And soon the day came; waters poured from the heavens and all the watercourses flooded and swept horses away until they drowned, great storms of all kinds struck every part of Ascetia. The great trees crashed to the ground and after the flooding, the mountain snows melted and fires roared through Ascetia. A drought hit but after the disaster, six equines remained. It appeared to be the end of the world. Domingo's silent prophecy had brought his world down. But soon Epona's beloved Ascetia began to repair itself; bit by bit; until the ravaged territories were restored. The six wandered for some time; pairing up as mates and eventually producing three foals after they went their separate ways. These three would someday be great in Ascetia, but who are they? As Epona brings yet more horses of all types into Ascetia by fate, the three chosen ones live among their own, oblivious to their destiny, until the sacred day comes....

Staff Auditions end tomorrow at 8 PM so get your auditions in! There are plenty of spots to give out! Remember, anyone can try out, no matter how many posts you have made or how new to proboards you are. We need more auditioners! Also, again, I am sorry for the maintenance mode mishap! One last thing:: The site is going into maitenance mode again. I'm sorry to stop all of you from posting but there are some changes that I am making. Don't freak out, I just have a lot to change about the site and I promise it will come back out of maitenance mode this time :P. The site is going to be VERY different when you come back! Thank you for understanding.

Well, this is Kempsie reporting. I will be using the admin account to make changes to the site and nothing more. It's now autumn. Let's get Ascetia back into full swing! I know we had that dormant period, and Cerise HAS quit (I'm taking over) but she is still guiding me via email (I almost said spirit! LOL!) and so you guys aren't alone. I hope I'm not! I hope Ascetia takes off again. I'm going to try and get us a new fall banner! =D

The Puppet:: Kzak
The Puppeteer:: Kempsie
Quirks:: Kzak is the lead stallion of Emerald Waters. He was the fourth charrie ever created on Ascetia and has two twins with his lead mare, Anntho. He's had a rough start in life as the weakling of his band, but he found a new leash through an elderly mentor and overcame the odds to become herd stallion. He misses his mate Anntho, and he's been sadder than usual with the loss of his band, but you can still find him in his territory: Emerald Waters, and we're sure old Kzak will stay there.

The Lands
[ ]The Great Green Valley
The valley is very large and pleasant. Lush green grass rolls on for miles. There are only a few trees amongst the green sea, but the grass is tall enough to hide a grown horse in places. Food is not a problem here, and so this territory can easily support a large herd.

[ ]Painted Desert
The Painted Desert is hot and desolate. There are mountains of sand that seem endless in this hot, dry place. Grass and water are minimal so be careful when wandering alone in the desert.

[ ]The Perished Forest
The Perished Forest is very desolate and easy to get lost in because of its thickness. Light streams between the leaves in the morning light and lights the dark forest. The ground is lush with moss and small patches of land without trees where the sun beats down hard can be found deep within the forest.

[ ]Snowcapped Mountains
The Snowcapped Mountains stretch so tall into the sky, that they are above the white clouds. Snow caps the mountains year-round even when the ground below is warm and unfrozen in the summer. The mountains are quiet and an escape from all else.

This beautiful beach stretches on endlessly. Bright blue water lines the coast and small, grassy dunes can be found just past the sandy beach.

[ ]The Desolate Road
As the name implies, this is a forsaken path long forgotten. The last remaining sign of the humans, the desolate road is near the outskirts of Ascetia. Loners, rogues, and outcasts alike come to share their stories and troubles. A good place to hide if you are feeling threatened. Although the woods here are mostly dead and sparse, a few morsels can be salvaged for a lucky wanderer.

The land here is dry and cracking, a very unwelcoming place. Mares come here to be claimed and stallions come here to find a mare to claim. Once a mare has been claimed, she may not change that. Only the stallion can change the mare he wants.
